I am new to taxidermy, and I have been looking at some different types of tans. I have seen this new Krowtann Whitetail formula and I was wondering if anyone has used. Also on just the ordinary kind has anyone used it and how have the results been for either one. Thanks Alot

Mikey, We have had great results with original krowtann. We have a whitetail head done with it from the first year it was out. we also have a test skin that has been soaked up 2 times now in two years and re-dried. The last time we soaked it, it stiffened up a little but thats it. Only thing we did with it that was different than instructions was we prepped the hide free from all meat and fat instead of rough fleshing. Then we oiled with a high quality oil. We had no notable shrinkage but also shaved capes on a shaving head. I have also mounted small lifesize like weasel and mink with excellent results. I have read bad stories about the stuff but haven't had any of the problems I have read about. biggest gripe I have is I don't like the smell of the stuff when mixing it and you must wash fur real well or it has a slight sticky appearance to the hair. I only do about 20 pieces a year now so dont use it much. mainly for very small lifesize. I just love to experiment with stuff like that.

I have used the original and the new whitetail formula and can not honestly tell any difference, got good results with each.
