I have a extra male that I am raising up and I looking at mounting him when hes got his adult colors. Has anyone ever done one of these guys? THe pic below is of one of my mature males. I think Im going to have to use excelsior to make the body as I have yet to see any form that resembles them. Pheasant bodies are too big, chukar too small LOL. And below is a pic of my San Diego stock Red Jungles, Anyone ever mount one of these? I have some young cockerels that will be fully mature in about 6 months. Im worried about keeping the long tail feathers intact. Anyone have recomendations for keeping them from being broken off? The roo pictured broke off a tail feather couple of months ago and what was on the ground measured 25 inches. I realy want to make sure the saddle and tail feathers dont get dried out or brittle. Any bird people here use something special to prevent that?

As far as tail feathers you could remove them and reattach them later. I don't like doing that if I don't have to, I hand flesh carefully wash and hand dry a lot of my long tail birds. For the waddle and crown you want to split the like you do lips on your fur bearers. I found the back of a scalpo blade works great and fill with epoxy sculpt when you mount. for an artificial head check out Tony Finazzo on taxi.net he makes just about every head.

Its takes 2 years for the Sonnerat's to reach mature plummage. THe juvies are much darker and dont have the pretty coloring. THe red jungles take 18 months to get that tail length if you dont let them be in with other birds.
