Every year I enter a lot of artwork into our local Fair which runs the last week of August. Mostly drawings, paintings, sculpture. Last year I entered a pheasant mount in the miscellaneous section and got first place and best of show. This year I'd like to enter another taxidermy piece, but not sure if I could get something together before August 19, the entry date. Maybe I'll take the doe mount that I just completed, and put her onto a barn board panel and make a nice lil habitat for her underneath. What do you all think? Or do you have any other ideas for a taxidermy piece that would appeal to the general public?

I put that skunk in the Dixie Clasic Fair here in NC. I was the 1st ever to enter taxidermy. There is not a catagory for it. I only took Honeralble Mention. The winner of 1st place was a piece of 1/4 inch Rod Iron twisted into the shape of a hook....lol. I will try again, I was pretty neat being the 1st ever to enter though. Free to enter = Free advertizing.

I say go for it, you might open a few more eyes to the "art" of taxidermy, if you think the doe makes a nice mount, why not

I entered this coyote about 10 years ago in the Yavapai County Fair (Arizona) in some Art category and won 1st place. I agree, it is good public relations. Kerby...

My mount got first place. The other awards I got were two best in shows (one for a drawing and the other for a deer sculpture). I got nine first places and I get $6 for each first place, so I'll get quite a bit of prize money. i needed it to save up for my tax license for when I open my shop this fall.
