Is it very hard to do a bass with a form in it, I mean I know nothing is going to just be simple but is it much harder. In this video I bought the guy just used cardboard cutouts of the fish and then used filler. I have heard of somthing called fish carving though or something. I have no clue what this is and i have seen forms for a fish. If anyone could help me with this i would apprciate it. Thanks Mikey

If I were you and just beginning I would definitely use a form to mount the fish, use a commercial if on of the correct size is available, most any size is available since so many are on the market, after you learn a little more try carving them yourself because if you do many fish you will inevitably get one that you can not find a form for, also casting will be great but at a little later date.

I would have to agree with jwj4856 on that.

LOok in the catalog you plan to order from, some want girth and gill to tail while others want eye to tail and even some want total length, just look in catalog for the diagram on measuring fish.

Mikey, do yourself a favor and order a john rinehart bass mannikin, they measure by total length and girth. Match mannikin to fishes girth, usually a little shorter on length but you can make up the length with a little filler when you install the mannikin into the skin. I've been using rineharts since the 80's and they the best fit especially bass. I haven't carved a bass in 15 years.

What exactly is carving

its the creating of a mannikin by carving foam from measurements and tracings of the fish itself, thats a pretty basic explanation anyway
