Mountman, What say-es you have to do birds. I have been in this field for 30 years, I just went full time 6 months ago. I don't do fish. occasionally I freeze dry some, but I don't paint any. I am not comfortable doing them. When a customer brings one in I have a couple of other taxidermist I can recommend. At the same time their are a couple of taxidermist that send me heir birds to do. I relay believe you can put out a better quality mounts by specializing. Another point. do you intend to do pets in your shop? I have quite a nice side line Freeze Drying pets. is that something every taxi wants to do? NO but why let the costumer run away? You could work with me or another taxidermist that has the equipment and charge a commission, If you are not comfortable with birds you don't have to do them, you seem to enjoy fish and do a nice job on them perfect your skill.
