What is everyone's preferred skinning method for lifesize. I case skin all my lifesize mammals, they are easy to mount this way, and even easier to sew. Have tried dorsal and ventral but it's hard to hide the seam on a dorsal unless you're really good at sewing or are working on a skin with long hair.

Maybe I am just good at sewing. I like the dorsal cut for all l/s mounts. Pin the seam and start sewing!

Dorsal is much better. For a cape, I saw someone skin one through the mouth so that there was NOR incision as all!! It was amazing!! And whats more, it HARD ...LOL

All my shoulder mounts get started in the mouth. I skin them up to the eyes and stop there. I too have seen someone do a doe and a spike buck through the mouth. I tried to do a fawn like that and ripped the skin up real bad.

I skin some of mine cased and some dorsal, both seem about the same to me, I just use which ever I think is the best for the position of the mount, and sometimes the repair work on the cape plays a part in deciding which way to skin.

dorsal on most, except climbing mounts then I usually use ventral especially on short haired critters

Yea I do all dorsal also. Except for the bears, cuz the guys usually have them gutted, so I just skin them the rest of the way ventral. Then when they get back from the tannery I sew them up, cut them then sew again. I know its a long process, but it works for me and sewing up the ventral cuts goes pretty quick cuz it aint on the forrm yet. I was wondering how you get the case skinned hide on the form, it sounds like a good plan (less sewing is better) but just wondering how you get the hide onto the form to check fit and stuff and to sew it up when it does fit good and right.

i agree with mountain. Most are dorsal but if the pose requires it i will either vent or case.

I hav used all 3 , It depends on the finished mount. In some cases I have split them on the right & left side, again depending on the finished mount
